Typical searches we work on
Someone looking for a therapist searches for the issue, anxiety, bereavement, a relationship, or the approach they have been recommended, and then reads. They read your page, your qualifications and your photograph, and they decide whether they could talk to you. The directories are convenient but crowded; a clear website of your own is where that decision is actually made.
What the page must not do is promise outcomes or sound like marketing. The tone that works is the tone of the room: calm, specific, honest about what you do and do not work with.

What makes the difference
What we would usually put right for counsellors, psychotherapists and private therapists, in order.
Anxiety, bereavement, trauma, relationships; person-centred, CBT, EMDR. Each is a search, and each page can be specific and kind.
Your training, your professional body and your registration, stated plainly. People check, and it matters.
Session fees, length, cancellation terms, online or in person, parking. Clarity removes the reasons not to get in touch.
A Google Business Profile for your practice address, or a service-area profile for online work, with accurate hours.
A short form that asks for the minimum, a clear statement of how you handle what people send, and a reply within a day.
What you can say. “Counsellor” and “psychotherapist” are not protected titles in the UK, so your professional registration is how people tell you apart; titles such as “clinical psychologist” are protected and may only be used by those registered to use them. Claims about outcomes are subject to the advertising rules, and reviews should never be solicited in a way that compromises a client.

Questions
Something we have not covered? Ask us directly, a person will answer.
The directories bring people to you; your website is where they decide. A clear site with your own pages for issues and approaches converts far better than a directory profile.
Many therapists choose not to, for good ethical reasons. If your professional body permits it and you do, it must be in a way that never identifies a client. Qualifications and a clear page do the trust work instead.
It is possible but competitive. Pages for specific issues and approaches do better than a general “online therapy” page.
As little as possible: a name, a way to reply and, optionally, a line about what they are looking for. Say clearly who reads it and how it is stored.
